Sagamore Hill: Home of Theodore Roosevelt
Sagamore Hill National Historic Site in Oyster Bay is the place President Theodore Roosevelt called home from 1885 until his passing in 1919. President Roosevelt spent so much time in this beloved home that it claimed the nickname ‘Summer White House’. Explore the 80 acres of serene landscape seven days a week from dusk until dawn. Visitors can take a guided tour of the 23-room mansion with exhibits and programs Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Walt Whitman’s Birthplace
Walt Whitman, one of the nation’s greatest poets, was born on Long Island in what is now the Walt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Site and Interpretive Center in Huntington. Dating back to 1819, the site houses original letters and manuscripts as well as other artifacts from Whitman. The home is open year round with exhibits and events for visitors to tour and learn more about the inspiration behind Whitman’s works that ultimately captured the spirit of the nineteenth century.

Eagle’s Nest Estate: Home of William Vanderbilt II
Eagle’s Nest Estate in Centerport was once home to William Kissam Vanderbilt II and his family. The Spanish-Revival mansion sits atop a 43-acre hill overlooking the Long Island Sound and Northport Bay. The 24-room mansion and museum highlights the eras from the Jazz Age through the Second World War. Guided tours and exhibits take visitors through Vanderbilt’s life, oceanic expeditions, global travels and expansive ethnographic collection. Vanderbilt left the museum to the county in 1944 to continue educational and cultural programming. The property’s Planetarium with a 60-foot dome theater and rooftop observatory offers extensive year-round programming.
