Surfing
Long Island’s 118 miles of ocean-facing coastline is easily accessible and action-packed. Surf legendary waves that attract seasoned professionals and surfing newcomers alike. Beginners can take a surf lesson at CoreysWave in Montauk. Then, head out to designated surfing beaches on the western end of the island or move further out east to secluded coves and catch a wave.
Water temperatures typically reach into the 70s at beaches in New York during the summer, but a wetsuit is recommended other times during the year. During the fall, the crowds thin, and the water and weather can remain fair into October.
While here, challenge yourself with some of the other ocean-related things to do in Long Island, including scuba diving, fishing, kayaking and canoeing.
